Jackie has a wide array of experience including the representation of bankruptcy trustees, debtors, creditors, and other entities involved in the bankruptcy process, and has represented businesses in their commercial disputes. She has handled complex matters involving bankruptcy, bankruptcy related litigation and restructuring, and has significant litigation writing experience which include drafting petitions, complaints, objections, motions, a successful appellate brief, and memorandum opinions on behalf of a United States Bankruptcy judge.

Jackie is the daughter of Vietnam War refugees, spent part of her childhood attending international schools in China and Malaysia, has an undergraduate background in Business Administration and Political Science, and has worked in both the business and legal sectors. Jackie’s diverse background allows her to counsel clients through a holistic lens and to provide practical solutions to legal matters.

In her free time, Jackie enjoys traveling and experiencing new cultures, spoiling her Shiba Inu, supporting her favorite esports teams, and hosting game nights with her friends.

Admissions & Memberships

Jackie is admitted to the State Bar of Texas and is admitted to practice before the federal district and bankruptcy court for the Southern District of Texas.

Jackie serves on the Houston Bar Association’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Committee and also acts as a mentor to law students through the program.

Education

Jackie obtained her J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center where she was a Dean’s Scholarship recipient, made the Dean’s list, served as the Chief Articles Editor for the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy, and was awarded the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Medal of Excellence. Prior to law school, Jackie attended the University of Houston on the full-tuition Academic Excellence scholarship where she received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a Minor in Business Administration.

Awards & Achievements

  • Jackie was awarded the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Medal of Excellence in 2019.
  • Jackie served as the Chief Articles Editor for the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy from 2018-2019.
  • Jackie served as a judicial intern for and received a judicial clerkship offer from the (now retired) Hon. Jeff Bohm, former chief bankruptcy judge for the Southern District of Texas.

Representative Experience

Jackie has provided legal representation to many types of interest parties across a wide variety of markets. The following is intended to be a representative, but no exhaustive, list of matters in which Jackie has been involved.

  • Recovered $2.1 million dollars from an insolvent Singaporean parent company in the international bankruptcy proceeding on behalf of the chapter 7 trustee administering the bankruptcy proceeding of the U.S. subsidiary company (In re InterChem USA Inc.).
  • Represented a corporate retail debtor with its multi-state, multi-million dollar, in-and-out of court restructuring under Subchapter V of the Bankruptcy Code. The court granted all relief sought in the emergency first day motions and the plan of reorganization was confirmed by the court within a month of filing (In re Pepi Companies).
  • Drafted the original complaint and objections on behalf of Amazon and Vera Bradley in a bankruptcy proceeding and related litigation arising from a federal trademark and copyright infringement suit (In re Zhenwang Zhang).
  • Represented the chapter 7 trustee in the administration of case. Conducted claims analysis and filed objections involving over $1million dollars of claims. Secured creditors were paid in full and unsecured creditors are expected to received distributions of 75% to 100%. (In re Greenleaf).
